Pitkin County in Exceptional Drought – Please Reduce Water Use

Pitkin County is currently under EXCEPTIONAL Drought conditions!

The W/J Metro District Board requests that all residents decrease water usage per the information below.  As our water supply is solely from a local aquifer beneath the Roaring Fork River, we must all work together to conserve this precious resource.   Streamflow in the Roaring Fork River is abnormally low, heavily impacted by poor runoff conditions and transbasin diversions. Flows are currently ranging between 19% and 40% of normal for early June.  We all need to do our part!

  1. All automatic irrigation systems should be scheduled between 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM.   If hand watering, only water lawns, gardens, trees, etc.    Closely monitor for waste and unnecessary overspray.
  2. Water outdoors (lawns, gardens, etc.) a maximum of 3 days per week with NO watering on Mondays and the following schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday for odd-numbered houses; and Wednesday, Friday and Sunday for even-numbered houses.
  3. Skip washing sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, patios and other paved areas.
  4. No filling or refilling of residential pools, hot tubs, or water features.
  5. No car washing at home.  Utilize only commercial care washing where water is recycled.

For all restriction details and updates, see www.aspen.gov/drought   The City of Aspen is currently under more aggressive Stage 3 Water Restrictions.
